Online petition presented to QCC

We presented the first instalment of our petition calling for Queanbeyan City Council to withdraw the Ellerton Drive Extension proposal and instead develop a Sustainable Transport Strategy at the council meeting in Queanbeyan on Wednesday, 24 July 2013.

We had 213 signatures and we also presented the many comments people made when they signed the petition. To protect privacy we did not identify the authors of particular comments.

On behalf of all of you who signed the petition, we asked councillors to read your comments to see the issues people are raising and how strongly people feel about how the road would harm local wildlife and the environment, and diminish people’s enjoyment of both.

We will keep presenting more signatures as they come in. If you have already signed the petition, tell your neighbours, friends and colleagues about the issues, and encourage them to sign up, too. You can find the petition here.

At the Council meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Tim Overall appealed to residents to back the proposal to build the Ellerton Drive Extension, and to ask candidates for Eden-Monaro at the forthcoming federal election to support the Council’s request for a $40 million, interest-free loan to pay for the road.

If you disagree with the proposed road it’s important to ask candidates where they stand. Perhaps this issue is so important to you that it will influence how you vote. If so, then tell the candidates. Remember, your vote is powerful. You can find contact details for the declared candidates on the Make a Difference page of this website.
